An Ode To Friendship
I'm already tearing up before this even begins.
Another reason I was drawn to Carrie? Her friends. They're so different from one another, but they connect on a level that's hard to comprehend. They speak the same language, feel unspoken emotions, and strive to understand each other, even when it's difficult. They meet at the same coffee shop each morning, have the same conversations in different fonts, put up with Carrie's Big obsession, and, above all, they truly display unconditional love.
To me, the best part of the show was the friendship—that's why I had to get rid of Mr. Big!
So, what does friendship look like in my life? It's looked like so many things. From pulling me out of my shy shell as a child to providing me with the courage and freedom to be myself. It's given every occasion a reason to laugh, smile, and celebrate. It's helped me find more of myself in the company of my friends and truly be understood for all that I am.
At times, my friends know me better than I know myself.
Everything I do and feel with my friends is love.
My very first friend—let's call her a Samantha-adjacent, as she lives loudly and her presence is known in the most beautiful way—recently returned from Italy for a couple of weeks. When I tell you this girl is like my missing puzzle piece, I mean it.
We literally can't have an original thought around each other because one of us has already thought what the other is about to share, seconds before. We still dress up to spice up occasions like we did when we were 7 years old and act like we’re the true main characters, living loudly like we're in the fake movies we used to create during playdates.
The other morning, we were on our favorite hike, listening to music and dancing up the mountain, when she said, "Hudson, as someone who constantly fixates on the future and past, being with you is simply the present."
Even after being separated by oceans, we realized we didn't need to race to catch up, to spill every thought and detail. Simply sharing the same air and hearing each other laugh in person was enough.
And this is what I mean about friendship. It transcends the very nature of life that we sometimes seek to escape. It envelops us in love and presence.
It is everything.
The beauty of friendship is truly incomprehensible. How lucky are we to be on a planet with 8 billion people and still find friendships that speak the same language as our souls? It doesn't matter their history, background, or even what language they speak—friendship finds a way.
We can make connections with people from all walks of life, and somehow, these bonds ignite something deep within us.
There's a kind of magic in discovering someone who just gets you, who sees you fully without explanation, and whose presence makes you come alive. It's as if the universe conspired for your paths to cross, even if only for a season.
Friendship is a reminder that we are meant to share life with others, to experience the richness of human connection. It's the way a simple conversation can turn an ordinary day into something extraordinary.
And it's not always about grand gestures or constant communication. Sometimes, it's the quiet, unspoken understanding—the knowledge that someone is there, that they see you, and that they hold space for you, no matter the distance or time apart.
How incredible is it that we can find these pieces of home in the people we meet along the way?
In a world so vast, friendship is the thread that ties us together, making us feel seen, known, and loved.
It is everything.
